What:
A non-profit fund that provides San Francisco Public Schools, and the children who attend them, with access to emerging technologies.
How:
The funding raised by the James Kim Technology Fund will be used in two ways.
At the Elementary school level, funding from the JKTF will be used to provide schools with limited access to technology with computer labs, up-to-date equipment, and instruction on how to use these technologies to compliment and enhance school curriculum. The goal is for both students and their families, who might otherwise not have exposure to current technologies, to have equal access to equipment and instruction, regardless of economic status and social background.
At the High school level, funding will be used to provide inner-city public school students with internships at local tech-related companies in order to provide them with hands on, in-house experience in fields where access to technology may otherwise be limited. Our goal is also to provide career counseling and instruction to help San Francisco’s diverse public school population gain equal opportunity in the growing tech sector..
Why:
In memory of James Kim
James Kim was a C|Net Senior Editor and technology enthusiast who supported public school education in the Bay Area.
As San Francisco is the epicenter of the technological world, it seems only natural that a fund in James’ honor be dedicated to closing
the digital divide that we see between many public school children in this city and the tech world which shares their space.
This fund was created in his memory to ensure that all San Francisco children have the opportunity to learn about the technologies driving our
local economy and improving the world around us.
